Slaby Field at Vista Point Park Dedication
As we close out the 2017 Admiral Farragut Academy North Alumni Weekend, we hope that all those who attended had a tremendous time and hope those who could not attend will join us next year.
Friday night saw over 70 Alumni gather on the grounds of the old campus to dedicate the old football field to Coach Stan Slaby and witness the ceremony of retreat and the folding of the flag. Slaby Field at Vista Point Park will be an everlasting tribute to Coach and our school. Along with the school markers at the "Rock" and "Dock", we will always have a place to come home to.
At the conclusion of the ceremonies at our former campus, the Alumni headed to Yesterdays for some good food, drink and camaraderie. Please read a retelling of Friday night by Bob da Silva 76N below.

Saturday began with the golfers braving some "fine Navy weather". Although these dedicated Alumni endured through a continuous drizzle and mist, some of the lowest scores were recorded with the team from the class of 1976 winning bragging rights for this year. Many Alumni sharpened their skills at Shooters indoor rifle and pistol shooting range while others took in the many destinations around the Jersey Shore like Atlantic City, Smithville Village and the Renualt Winery to name a few.
The Saturday Night Alumni Banquet was attended by over 100 Alumni, family and friends. The dinner program featured a stirring tribute to our Farragut Veterans along with the honoring of our fallen Alumni who were killed in WWII and Korea. Those names were lost since the school closed 23 years ago but were found again by the work of a few dedicated Northern Alumni.
The dinner concluded with the emotional tribute to Coach Stan Slaby. Testimonials were presented by CAPT Frank Porcellini 80N, Terri Rekus 94N, Thomas Kedersha 62N and Ace Bottone 80N. The program ended with the tender video tribute put together by JP Boustany 75N. By the end of the video, there was not a dry eye in the room. A truly fitting tribute to Coach and Polly and we all thank you JP for your time, effort and dedication. (See the link to the video below)
As in the past, a challenge coin was again minted for this occasion for all in attendance and donated by Brian Fischer 76N, Ace Bottone 80N, Chris Quincannon 92N, Frank Porcellini 80N, and Rick Creange 77N. A picture and description can be seen below.
Again we hope everyone who attended this years gathering had a wonderful time and we hope to see everyone again next year. Please keep in touch with us and we would love to hear from every Alumni.
Thank You, The 2017 Pine Beach Reunion Committee
